Light, moderate or heavy? Understanding your flow
Your flow can change from day to day and from cycle to cycle. Understanding it helps you pick the right products and notice what's normal for you.
Light flow
Usually seen on the first or last days of your period: light spotting or small streaks of blood. It often means your body is easing in or rounding up your cycle. A pantyliner or a 6" to 8" pad is usually enough.
Moderate flow
A steady, noticeable flow. You may need to change your pad more often, and this is the most common flow level for many people. A 10" to 12" pad works well as your usual day-time pad.
Heavy flow
You soak products faster, a cup may fill quicker, and the flow can feel warm or gushy when you stand up. It's common around days 2–3. For heavy days we recommend a 14" or 16" pad, or period underwear.
Very heavy flow
Needing to change products very often or passing thick clots can feel overwhelming. Pairing products, such as a cup or pad with period underwear, adds extra security.
If very heavy periods happen regularly, talk to a doctor or trusted health professional.
Why reusables help you track your flow
Because you rinse and wash reusable pads and pants yourself, you see your flow more clearly from cycle to cycle. That makes changes easier to notice and explain to a health professional if you need to.
